Custom mirrors are a perfect addition to any room.  Not only do they reflect the items in the room, but they also reflect one's personal taste.  The advantage to having a custom made mirror is that you can select the size to suit the area, without having to make do with stock sizes.  Before ordering a custom mirror, one should measure accurately the area where the mirror will be placed.  Measure the length and width of the area in at least 3 different places as often an area that looks square may be out by a few inches.  Remember to allow for the width of the moulding when calculating the size of the mirror required.

Mirrors come in different thicknesses, with  3/16" being adequate for most sizes.   For large mirrors we use a 1/4" thickness as it is more sturdy and can support a heavier frame.  With a custom mirror, one can also have the edges beveled to add to the finished beauty.   If a bevel of more than 1 1/2" is required, we again use a 1/4" mirror.

For larger, heavier mirrors, we attach a Z-bar to the back of the mirror.  The other part of the z-bar is attached to the wall at regular intervals - making sure that the screws go into the wooden studs.  The bar on the mirror then fits onto the bar on the wall, providing a much safer hanging method than regular wire.  A professional installer should hang any mirror larger than 4 feet in width.
