GOING GREEN IN CUSTOM FRAMING
In the framing industry, there are many
opportunities for people to exercise responsible choice for the good of the
environment. At Art & Framing Solutions we try to be as
environmentally aware as possible, minimizing the negative impact we have on the
environment. Wherever possible we use eco-friendly products such as glass
cleaners which do not contain any ozone-depleting chemicals. Cardboard products
are given to a local recycler and we save old frames, matboard scraps, and any
other material which could be useful in art projects. These are donated to the
art departments of our local schools in order to help budding artists express
their creativity. We are happy to be associated with suppliers who are making a
positive effort.

Molding suppliers: companies such
as Framerica, Larson-Juhl, Roma, Universal Framing, Nielsen Bainbridge,
Victor's, Max Molding, Decor Molding and Designer Molding have introduced
programs that implement eco-friendly principles. For example, forest
management is important to these companies and they strive to use only
sustainable woods for their moldings. Another program recycles used wood
within local communities, donating wood shavings to local farms and larger
pieces to paper mills and power plants. Other means of helping the
environment include using recycled packaging and having marketing brochures
and catalogs printed on recycled paper with FSC-certified forest products.
Work places practices are aimed at minimizing waste and implement proactive
environmental management. |
Matboard suppliers: Many of the
matboard suppliers are limiting the use of chlorine and other harmful additives
to their papers. Sustainable cotton rather than alpha cellulose is widely used
in rag matboards.

Print suppliers: Our print
suppliers now provide products that feature recycled content or sustainable
resources. Print-on-demand is becoming more common in order to reduce stock
on hand and the build-up of excess inventory. Editions Limited is using a
new ultraviolet technology which allows it to print directly on alternative
substrates such as bamboo. |
