FEATURED ARTIST - August 2006Kim ParkerKim Parker is an internationally renowned textile designer and artist. She is also the winner of three British design awards in 2004: the D&D Award (Design & Decoration), the ELLE DECORATION U.K. Award, and The Observer Magazine Award for best flooring in the U.K. with her uniquely floral designer rug "Mums & Asters" for The Rug Company.
A native New Yorker, Kim has been designing textiles for both the Fashion and Home Decor Textile industries for over a decade. In 1995 she started her own silk, hand-painted collection of textiles and quickly established herself as one of the top art, prints and posters studios in New York City. Her textile designs have appeared in the collections of the top designers in fashion as well as home such as Jill Stuart, Diane Von Fastener, Anthropologie and Pottery Barn to name a few. She has had Soho Gallery Exhibitions of her art, prints and posters and best-selling author Patricia Cornwell has collected her work on canvas.
Kim's greatest inspirations are painters Gabrielle Munter, Gustav Klimt, Vassily Kandinsky, Emil Nolde and many of the German Expressionist painters. She has licensing agreements with Galison for her stationery collections; with Editions Limited, for her collection of Fine Art posters and giclees on canvas; and her critically acclaimed first illustrated children's book Counting in the Garden was published April 2005 by Scholastic, Inc.
