Annie Leibovitz Annie Leibovitz is a world-famous photographer, best known for her powerful portraits of celebrities. She began her work for Rolling Stone magazine and has worked for many years with both Vanity Fair and Vogue where her witty portraits have earned her a reputation as an astute observer of American popular culture.
In addition to her magazine work, Leibovitz has accepted many commissions. In 1985 she was the official portrait photographer for the World Cup Games in Mexico. She has created prize-winning advertising campaigns for American Express and The Gap. She documented the creation of the White Oak Dance Project for Mikhail Baryshnikov and has worked with many other artistic organisations, including American Ballet Theatre and the Mark Morris Dance Group.
During the siege of Sarajevo, Leibovitz visited the city and created a series of portraits that were exhibited in 1993 at the Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 1994 saw Annie's work exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London. In 1995, she was commissioned to create the official portfolio for the twenty-sixth Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. This autumn, Random House will publish Women, a book of Leibovitz's portraits, with an essay by Susan Sontag.
