FEATURED ARTIST - August 2008Laurette EscobarLaurette Escobar is a talented artist who is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is currently working and living in San Antonio. Texas forms the backdrop for her art in that "one of the great things about Texas is its vastness. There are great wildlife refuges, great parks, beaches, deep sea fishing and great places to just chill out with the family or that special man or woman. But the best thing about Texas is the people. We have our rednecks, our city dwellers, our ranchers, our beach combers, our tree huggers, our small town folk and a slew of others. I am made up of all these people and all these places."
Laurette is an emotional person. Her art screams emotion. While many people cringe when they hear someone is emotional, this translates into happiness and joy as well as hate, anger, and sadness. These are all perfectly acceptable and are all very much represented in her art.
For the most part Laurette employs acrylic paints but she has worked in other media. Lately, she has been working with plasters to get different textures - with excellent results. Laurette also paints more abstract designs, with vibrant colors and evocative imagery. She currently sells 8" x10" color prints of her works and (when the design lends itself) 11" x 17" color prints. Additional paintings can be viewed at http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a186/CROWNROCKS/ and at http://www.cafepress.com/CROWNROCKS The artist can be contacted at laurette_escobar@yahoo.com
